groom speech length

It’s a great honor when you’re asked to serve as the Best Man in a wedding. Whether you’re the groom’s brother, a childhood friend, or a college buddy, the invitation has been extended because you share a profound relationship, and the groom is entrusting you to help him through one of the most important times in his life.

As you start thinking through your host of responsibilities, from planning the bachelor party to getting the groom to the church on time, one of the most challenging duties can be delivering a meaningful speech to the bride and groom. With expectations high, you want to craft a speech that will not only make the wedding couple happy, but leave a lasting impression with the guests.

Let’s face it, whether it’s an intimate affair of 20 people or an audience of 200, delivering the right words can be nerve-racking. For many, public speaking conjures thoughts of sweaty palms, a racing heart, and dry mouth. But don’t worry, with a little pre-planning and rehearsal, you’ll be able to deliver a speech that will leave the guests wanting more. Just follow these easy steps.

1. Take a walk down memory lane. In this first stage, you’ll want to think back on your most memorable experiences with the groom. Whether embarrassing goof-ups or meaningful stories of comradery, jot down some of your favorites. To help jar your memory, look through old photos, talk to other friends and even take the groom out for a fun night to talk about the “old” times. You have a one-of-a-kind relationship with the groom, so choose memories that reflect the depth and breadth of your experiences together.

2. Remember the bride! It will be equally important for you to recognize the bride in the speech you deliver. Maybe you’ve known the bride for years, or maybe she’s a more recent acquaintance, be sure to include a story or anecdote that reflects positively on your friend’s new life partner. You’ll want to include your well-wishes for the bride and groom’s future together.

3. Decide on a tone for your speech. You’ll probably want a combination of humor and seriousness. A speech that is too weighted in humor can come across as crass and insincere, but a speech that is too serious can be downright boring. Make sure that you strike a nice balance.

4.  Seek professional help.  www.TheBestManSpeech.com/usabestman is a fantastic resource for creating personalized, meaningful wedding speeches that bring the house down. The site features the world’s largest collection of wedding speech material organized by a series of interactive menus that make it fun & easy to build a speech that will perfectly represent you and your relationship to the groom.

5. Start writing. You’ve already jotted down your favorite stories and memories, but now you need to compile your content into a thoughtful speech. Remember that you’ll want to start with an attention-grabbing story. Humor is always a great opener and a sure-fire way to hold the audience’s attention. Deliver your more serious stories mid-speech, and then, as you draw to a close, come full circle with another funny story. You’ll want to leave the audience smiling.

6. Rehearse. Rehearse. Rehearse. The week leading up to the wedding is a great time for you to practice your speech. And you should practice it every opportunity you get. Stand in front of the mirror and rehearse out loud. You’ll want to go through your speech at a nice even cadence. Don’t feel rushed. And stay away from filler words like “um” and “you know”.  Finally, try to keep the length under 7 minutes.

By the time the wedding day rolls around, all of your preparation will pay off, and the time and effort you will have invested will be evident. When the microphone is finally handed over to you, be sure to stand up confidently, make eye contact with the wedding couple & guests, project your voice, and have fun!

You will not only deliver a memorable wedding speech, but you will also reinforce your friendship with the groom, and earn a special place in the heart of the bride and guests. And that is the mark of a wonderful best man.

groom speech samples

You start off with the very best of intentions, a few minutes work and you will soon transform that blank piece of paper into an award winning groom’s wedding speech. Then reality sinks in, you can’t think of a good opening line, you don’t know what you are expected to say, where do you draw the line at thanking people, how can you introduce humor without offending anyone, what is the best way to end the speech, etc, etc.

An hour passes and the paper is still blank, then thankfully you realize that you have more urgent matters to attend to, such as making a coffee and checking those emails, again. Sometime later you begin to realize that the speech isn’t going to write itself, and so you repeat the process all over again. Eventually you decide that you need to break the cycle and try a different tactic, such as searching the internet for some sample groom speeches. So that is what you do.

Another hour or two pass by before you realize that perhaps this wasn’t such a good idea after all, your searches throw up many dead ends, and the few sample groom speeches you do find are dated, cliché ridden, and corny. There is no way that you can see yourself giving a speech as poor as this, and this lack of belief and confidence in the speech will affect your delivery. You have a mild panic attack as you visualize your wedding guests shuffling in their seats and muttering unpleasantries about your amateurish attempts at a groom’s speech.

After wasting a lot of time to get this far you eventually realize that the old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ may be true after all, and you decide that you want your groom’s speech to be better than this. You decide to invest in a book written by a professional author and public speaker, this way you can be guaranteed to get quality sample grooms speeches, and also tips on exactly how to personalize the speeches and how to deliver them correctly to gain the maximum impact.

You then realize that you should have done this from the beginning. Instead of wasting all of that time chasing after poor quality speeches you now have a unique speech that suits both your personality and your comfort zone, and the monetary cost investment has been miniscule compared to the time cost in pursuing the cheaper ‘free’ way.

This method produces a speech that is so good, and that fits your personality like a glove, that you are confident you can deliver it perfectly. You know that your wedding guests will surely notice, and the bride and new in-laws can’t fail to be suitably impressed. A job well done!

wedding speeches brother to bride

Wedding ceremony speeches are a good chance to express to the wedding couple how you feel about them. Being chosen a Matron of honor means you hold a special place in the bride’s heart. Preparing a superb Matron of honor wedding speech will therefore be necessary as she’ll be all ears to soak in all the love and praise. If the Matron of honor is a sister or a close childhood friend, she can decide to make the speech a bit more personal by briefly sharing old and fond memorable childhood moments.

A good Matron of honor wedding speech should portray the many good years shared and spent with the bride. It should also portray a good knowledge of the groom as part of the bride’s life and knowing how their love has grown. Remember all this should be contained within at most a minute or so. Short wedding speeches are easy to remember and leave vivid fond memories. The following are some hints to make a brief but touchy Matron of honor wedding speech or other wedding ceremony speeches.

Prepare for the Matron of honor wedding speech by taking some time off way before the wedding. Write in a relaxed mode which will allow some fond childhood memories spent with the bride to flow in. Waiting to prepare the speech just before the wedding and memorizing it during the exchange of wedding vows should be out of question. Reading different wedding speech examples by different people gives more ideas like love quotes and clean jokes. Coming up with nice wedding ceremony speeches will therefore require some research and it will be worth it. It is after all, the Matron of honor wedding speech.

When reading the speech, make a brief self introduction while standing and facing the audience. Maintain a relaxed and natural composure, speaking slowly while making good eye contact with the audience. Congratulate the newly wedded couple formally then get into more personal details. Very briefly and serenely, go through happy childhood days with the bride, occasionally stealing a glance at her as she blushes under her veil. Making the Matron of honor wedding speech a bit personal really carries away the bride’s heart.

When ending the speech, the Matron of honor should address the bride directly, showering her with sweet words like how beautiful she looks and how she reminds her of her own wedding. If the Matron of honor is a sister to the bride, she should welcome the new groom as a brother in law into their family. Some love quotes and one or two clean jokes will come in handy here. The Matron of honor wedding speech can also be supplemented with a short poem. An example from an extract of a good Matron of honor wedding speech follows below.

“…I have been granted the merit of serving as Maid of Honor and therefore take this opportunity to thank (bride’s name) for requesting me to be at her side as she ties the knot. And to (groom’s name), “You did it, you cleaned up well enough for the occasion. You have my blessings”. Honestly, I’m delighted for the two of you…”

Does the maid of honor give a speech at the wedding reception?

Im the maid on honor in my friends wedding. In the reception do I give a toast or a speech? She says I do. But online they say that basically the father of the bride then the groom then the best man gives it in that order nothing about the maid of honor. Please help they are getting married on Friday.Thank you!
Also they are having 1927 theme AL Capone!!! But I guess I have decided to do a toast! Im working on it!Thanks!

In the olden days, only the best man and the fathers would speak. However, it’s the twenty-first century and women – including the maid of honor and female relatives of the bride – are often called upon to give toasts at the reception.

I’m MOH for a wedding this weekend and have been asked to speak. The “toasters” will be the best man, the fathers of the bride and groom, and myself.

If the bride asked you to give a toast, it’s because you mean so much to her and she believes you will have something beautiful or funny to share with the guests. If you hate public speaking, beg off for that reason. But don’t refuse to do it just because you think it’s “untraditional.”

Wedding poems that can be used as a maid of honor speech?

I’d like to recite a beutiful poem while doing my maid of honor speech to them since they both enjoy poetry… any suggestions of a beautiful short poem? I’ve known the bride since 7th grade I intorduced her to the groom in high school they have been together 8 years if that helps…i really want something beautiful about love, growth, commitment? anyone know anything?

May life’s road rise to greet you.
May the winds of life’s storms be always at your backs.
May life’s joys shine warm upon the circle of your family.
Until the end of days, may the God of your fathers hold you and keep you safe in the hollow of his love.

This is a paraphrase of a classic toast called “An Irish Blessing”
I prepared it for my own sister’s wedding.

Hope this helps, and congratulations to your friend.

wedding speeches order of ceremony

wedding speeches order of ceremony

Wedding ceremony speeches are many as people try to congratulate and advise the newly weds. One such speech is the maid of honor wedding speech. It comes after the best man’s speech and it should focus on delighting the bride. To give a speech that is memorable and one that will please the couple and the guests, one can prepare adequately for it. Topics that are covered in the maid of honor wedding speech should be from the heart. One way of starting the speech is by letting the people know how you know the bride. One can let people know how you met the bride and how you became friends. One can also tell the guests what the bride would tell you about the groom.

Having short wedding speeches is always appealing to the guests and the maid of honor wedding speech is not any different. One should keep the speech brief and refer to the wedding vows made in the ceremony. The maid of honor wedding speech is brief because the audience still has to listen to other speeches after yours just as they have already listened to other speeches before yours. A maid of honor wedding speech should be lively, enthusiastic, and sincere. Saying something favoring the bride is advisable. One can also congratulate the bridal couple and tease the bride a bit. The speech can have some love quotes that dwell on the couple’s joyous celebration. Although the speech is personal, it should not embarrass the bride. You are her friend and this should be portrayed in the speech that you give. Throwing in some love quotes in the speech is also advised.

Writing the maid of honor wedding speech beforehand allows someone have time to go through it and make some corrections. After writing it, you can ask someone else to read it and offer his or her opinion. Having a written speech prevents someone from mumbling and stammering as one looks for words to fill their speech. If you do not want to have a sheaf of papers that you are trying to get in order, cards will work out well too. A maid of honor wedding speech example is as follows.

”Ladies and gentlemen, my name is ______. _____ and I have known each other since college. Since then we have shared memorable moments and her wedding is no exception. _____ has always been there for me. I remember one time when… When she told me she was getting married … Her wonderful nature and patience are some of her wonderful characteristics… I would just like the groom to know that in _____, he has found a worthy companion who will honor her wedding vows and…As I end my speech, I leave with this quote ‘may the roof above you never fall in and may you both never fall out’.”

A good maid of honor wedding speech tries to incorporate all the positive things about the bride but this should not be exaggerated. Keeping a light tone during this short wedding speech will not bore people.
