groom speech introductions

Best Man Speech structure

So you’re going to be a Best Man? It’s a huge honour, a great experience, and to many people… a disaster! Writing your Best Man speech can be a very daunting task. There are many rights and wrongs, with everyone having a different opinion on how to do it.

However – below is a tried and tested structure for your Best Man speech. Follow this guide, add in your own stories, and it will make the job so much easier!

Step 1 – The introduction

Start your Best Man speech by announcing yourself to the room; tell the audience who you are, why you’re there – and also how you know the Groom. Did you meet at school, college or work? Where did your friendship start? Talk about who the Groom was when you met him – probably not the honourable and respectable character he is now!

Step 2 – The Groom’s life

What has the Groom done since you’ve met him? Did he go to university? Where has he worked, what jobs has he done? Think about this – there will be lots of material that you can get from ex university friends or colleagues. Maybe he embarrassed himself at a party, had a terrible job that he was no good at, or made a fool of himself in work? Once you start to ask people about the groom, you’ll be inundated with stories!

Step 3 – The Groom’s views on life… the man behind the front…

Often, people think they know someone… but do they really? Your guests may know that the Groom is called John, and that he’s a fireman and he’s marrying Helen. But do they know what sport he enjoys? How is his cooking? Is he tidy or messy? Aside from his life in the past, talk about what sort of person the Groom is now. Everyone has a hobby or interest that can be turned into a joke of some sort for your speech!

Step 4 – The meeting…

Yes – enough of the Groom thanks very much! Your Best Man speech is all about the Bride & Groom, so now talk about how your best friend met his wife to be. Who made the first move? Was he romantic at all? There’s usually a funny story about how the meeting came about!

Step 5 – About their relationship…

Your Best Man speech should now move on to the wedding couple. Talk about the sort of relationship they have, what they’ve done together, any funny or embarrassing incidents that’s happened to them as a couple. A great Best Man speech is all about this – making jokes directed at the Groom, but including his new wife in them wherever possible (although not making fun of her!!)

Step 6 – The wind up

You’ve delivered a well structured, funny Best Man speech. Now you have to bring it to a close. Congratulate your friend and his new wife on their marriage, tell them how special they are to you, and if you wish – provide any advice on a happy marriage to them.

Step 7 – Let’s toast!

End your Best Man speech by thanking everyone for their attention, and then ask them to raise a toast to the new couple. If required, you may also toast the bridesmaids at this point (before you toast the Bride and Groom). In a Best Man speech, it’s usually a 50/50 split as to whether you mention the Bridesmaids or not. It’s the Bride & Groom’s choice.

Step 8 – You did it!

And that’s it! Sit down, enjoy your champagne and have a great night ahead! You’ve earned it!

wedding speeches the knot

Write the best bridesmaid speech that you can with the help of tips and tricks that I have found online. The web is a huge place and I found for you the best tips and tricks to write a great bridesmaid speech that you can be proud of.

I also had the same problem you have today. I was also invited by my best friend to be her bridesmaid, and I was stressed out that I had to write a bridesmaid speech. And why not? I am not a trained speech writer and the last time I ever had to write was in school. That was a very long time ago.

I ended up scouring the web for speech writing guides and wedding speeches writing tips. Here are the things i learned that helped me write my own bridesmaid speech.

1. Avoid profanity and excessive vulgarity when writing your wedding speech. Remember that minors are present. You don’t want to hear groans from parents when you dish out a vulgar joke in your speech.

2. Avoid upstaging the bride by telling stories about ex-relationships. Just focus on the bride and groom and how they changed for the better since they were together. Tell inspirational stories or funny anecdotes about the bride and groom. You can spice things up as long as you are within the realm of decency.

3. Write your bridesmaid speech using short and simple sentences. This will make it easier for you to write it, and it will make it easier for your audience to understand it better as well. Do not use fancy words that only a select few will understand. In the same way, avoid using a lot of inside jokes that only a few will get. Your goal is to draw your general audience in and not to alienate them.

4. Make up a single unifying theme and stick with it. You need to make a topic sentence and follow that topic all throughout the speech. This will help guide your writing to make your speech cohesive and succinct.

5. End your wedding speech with the obligatory congratulations. Tell the bride and groom how proud you are of them for finally tying the knot. Tell the newlyweds to take care of each other and grow with each other, and to understand each other during trying times.

Just follow the steps enumerated above and you can write your own bridesmaid wedding speech. It’s easy to write your own speech as long as you follow the guide above. If you need more professional speech writing tips and tricks, just click http://www.weddingspeechesforall.com

Wedding speeches – father of the groom?

Does the father of the groom usually make a speech and is it acceptable if he wants to?

traditionally its father of the bride, then groom, then best man but as with everything at youe own wedding – do whatever you like!!!! if he wants to do one then go for it – but be warned speeches that are too long or too many may start to bore you and your guests. i think 3 is ample so if the father of the groom wants to do one you might have to axe someone elses or at least keep them a bit briefer!!!!

groom speech poem
a wedding poem that can be used as/during a maid of honor speech?

I’d like to recite a beutiful poem while doing my maid of honor speech to them since they both enjoy poetry… any suggestions of a beautiful short poem? I’ve known the bride since 7th grade I intorduced her to the groom in high school they have been together 8 years if that helps…i really want something beautiful about love, growth, commitment? anyone know anything?

There once was a girl named Sarah who meet here lover through Jen;
For the next 8 years they suffered through trials and tears, but found they loved each other in the end.
It must be love people would say as they watch the couple stroll by;
But they have never seen them argue and cry.
Love is not perfect and neither are we;
I will try for you if you try for me.
That will be ten points please.

wedding toasts groomsmen

Your wedding party is a major factor in the success of your wedding day. Too many couples assume that once they’ve selected their brides maids and grooms men that they are finished. Unfortunately, many people don’t know what it means to be in a bridal party. Bridesmaids and groomsmen need to do more than just look pretty. Put these people to work! If your wedding party knows the who’s, what’s, when’s, and why’s, they will be able to handle many of the details that may derail the enjoyment of what should be your happiest day.

Many sites will tell you the traditional roles for your wedding party. I’m going to give you some tips on additional (and non-traditional) jobs for your bridesmaids and groomsmen to perform so that you can spend your time on more important details.

Babysitter: Make it the responsibility of someone in your wedding party to know where the rest of the wedding party is at all times. When time comes for someone to make a toast, the wedding party dance, the dollar dance, the garter auction, games, etc. it is frustrating for everyone to be waiting for that one person who is outside, in the bathroom, or talking to your cute cousin.

Activity Leader: Put your bravest party animal in charge of leading activities. This person needs to be someone willing to lead a bunny hop, talk on a mic, lead people to the dance floor etc.

Clean-Up Crew: Assign the task of making sure nothing gets left behind to one of your attendant’s. It will be their job to check the area of the ceremony, reception, and dance to make sure none of the wedding party left things like bags, purses, shoes, coats, wallets, keys, etc.

Nanny: Find your most child loving attendant, and give them the task of sheparding children off the dance floor during special events and dances. Children are great, but they don’t realize that the Bride and Groom’s first dance is not an appropriate time for them to be chasing bubbles on the dance floor.

Designated Driver: Don’t forget this important job! No need to let senseless tragedy ruin your perfect night.

While these are not traditional roles for your average wedding party, assigning someone to these tasks will make your day less stressful so you can spend your time making your wedding beautiful.

If you’re having some trouble writing your wedding speech, what would you say if I told you that you were being too hard on yourself? Writing a wedding speech is easy stuff, especially when you know exactly what you’re supposed to be talking about and what you should be saying.

Out of ideas? Here are a few things that should help you write your speech and make it a great one!

Show Your Gratitude

Let the bride/groom know that you appreciate them having you be a part of their wedding, or just for being invited for that matter.

Share Stories of the Bride/Groom

Think of things to say about them, funny or emotional. You know their personality and their tastes. Make it a perfect fit for them.

Be Respectful

Don’t say anything that will cross the line. If you think something might sound inappropriate, it most likely is. Try to keep the attendees in your mind as well.

Use Compliments When You Can

People love compliments. Who doesn’t? When someone says something nice about you, it makes you feel good. Compliment the bride on how beautiful she looks or the parents for throwing a great wedding, etc.

Try To Keep Things Relevant

Don’t let your speech be all about one side of the family or talk about things that half of the people in attendance will not understand. Try to make your speech appeal to both sides of the family, so everyone will understand you better.

Give a Toast

Give a toast to the wedding party and everyone else that you think should have one.

wedding toasts in latin

Pick An Unusual Entrance Song-

Check out your personal music collection and write down the first ten songs that appeal to you. Then decide which one of those would be best for you to walk into at your reception. Chances are you will come up with an Entrance Song nobody else has thought of. One rule of thumb is- the higher the energy of the song, the better. This applies whether it’s Classical, Rock, Hip Hop, Swing, etc.

Don’t Just Enter, MAKE An Entrance-

The difference can be subtle or more pronounced but it is important that you, in some way, visually acknowledge your guests as part of your Grand Entrance. This can be done by simply pausing to let them get a good look at you while they snap a picture, waving back at them or perhaps taking a bow or giving high fives. Now you have included your guests in the joy of the moment by making them PART of your entrance!

Change The Order-

Often the First Dance comes after the meal. But there’s no rule that says you can’t do it right after your entrance. The Best Man’s toast can be at the beginning of the meal… or later, towards the end of it. Just because you throw your bouquet doesn’t mean you have to do the whole garter removal and throwing thing. If you want, you can the pass on the removal and just have a garter toss or you can dispense with the whole formality.

That Sounds Different-

You have an opportunity to create a unique experience for your guests from the time they first step foot in your reception. It is important that your reception have it’s own “sound”. Preferable a unique mix of songs that people don’t usually come in contact with at the office, the mall or while listening to the car radio.

You can turn your room into a romantic Spanish villa with flamenco fusion latin guitar. Or create a swinging, “Rat Pack” atmosphere with classic big band music. You could even transport your guests to a sunny, tropical seashore with the right mix of beach music.

We had one couple who got engaged in Italy and chose artists like Dean Martin, Andrea Bocelli and Louis Prima for their dinner music. The choice of sounds that sets the tone for your reception is limited only by your imagination. The goal is to give your guests something they haven’t experienced at any other wedding they’ve been to.

Saying “Thank You”-

A simple “thank you” to your guests over the mic can mean so much. Publicly expressing your appreciation for their participation at your wedding is one of the classiest and most heartfelt things you can do. And in case you should miss anyone during your mingling time, you have at least already acknowledged your gratitude to them.

Choreograph Your First Dance-

A choreographed First Dance is always a special treat for you and your guests. We’ve seen waltzes, swing dances and even a tango or two. A bit of work is involved here as you may need to take some lessons and rehearse prior to your “performance”. The pay off is creating an unforgettable moment for you and your guests. A moment that never fails to get a great response from all in attendance.

Use Creative Lighting-

The right lighting can add color and depth to any room. Colored beams of uplighting on the walls, a pinspot to highlight the cake and dynamic projection dance floor club lighting are some ways to create a special atmosphere. Well planned lighting has a dramatic effect on the look and feel of your reception.

Avoid Musical Cliches-

Party songs that have been played at every wedding in the past twenty years can be replaced with more inventive choices. Jettison those played-out tunes like “Love Shack”, “La Bamba”, “Mony Mony”, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “I Will Survive”. Update your playlist with fresh ideas. Examples of newer songs that have wide appeal include “Smooth” by Santana, “Hey Ya!” by Outkast, “Get The Party Started” by Pink, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet and “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. This is a good starting point and the music can get more cutting edge as the night goes on.

Promo, Promo, Promo

Have you ever been to a wedding where you felt like you didn’t know what was going on? Your MC should let your guests know what they have to look forward to later. Attendees will be less likely to leave early if they know that the cake cutting is coming up shortly. Or that if they go now they will miss the first dance. Get an MC who understands the power of the promotional announcement!

bride and groom speech sample

September 2nd, 2006 admin No comments

You start off with the very best of intentions, a few minutes work and you will soon transform that blank piece of paper or computer screen into an award winning groom’s wedding speech. Then reality sinks in, you can’t think of a good opening line, you don’t know what you are expected to say, where do you draw the line at thanking people, how can you introduce humor without offending anyone, what is the best way to end the speech, etc, etc.

An hour passes and the paper or computer screen is still blank, then thankfully you realize that you have more urgent matters to attend to, such as making a coffee or checking those text messages or emails, again.

Sometime later you begin to realize that the speech isn’t going to write itself, and so you repeat the process all over again. Eventually you decide that you need to break the cycle and try a different tactic, such as searching the internet for some sample groom speeches. So that is what you set out to do.

Another hour or two pass by before you realize that perhaps this wasn’t such a good idea after all, your searches throw up many dead ends, and the few sample groom speeches you do find are dated, cliché ridden, and corny. You’ve wasted hours and achieved nothing so you decide to call it a day.

There is no way that you can see yourself giving a speech as poor as this, and this lack of belief and confidence in the speech will affect your delivery. You have a mild panic attack as you visualize your wedding guests shuffling in their seats and muttering unpleasantries about your amateurish attempts at a groom’s speech.

After wasting a lot of time to get this far you eventually realize that the old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ may be true after all, and you decide that you want your groom’s speech to be better than this. It is the biggest day of your life after all.

You decide to invest in a book written by a professional author and public speaker, this way you can be guaranteed to get quality sample grooms speeches, and also tips on exactly how to personalize the speeches and how to deliver them correctly to gain the maximum impact.

You then realize that you should have done this from the beginning. Instead of wasting all of that time chasing after poor quality speeches you now have a unique speech that suits both your personality and your comfort zone, and the monetary cost investment has been miniscule compared to the time cost in pursuing the cheaper ‘free’ way.

This method produces a speech that is so good, and that fits your personality like a glove, that you are confident you can deliver it perfectly. You know that your wedding guests will surely notice, and the bride and new in-laws can’t fail to be suitably impressed. A job well done!
