What’s the typical order of wedding speeches?

Giving a toast is a responsibility that puts fear in the speaking hearts of most members of a wedding party. While it’s not usually something that is particularly long or involved, it’s public speaking (which doesn’t sit well with many people) and really puts people on the spot.
If you are planning a wedding and know that most members of this wedding party are hams who won’t mind the whole “public speaking” thing, then by all means keep the toasts traditional with dad, the best man and others taking their expected turns at the microphone.
But if you’re looking for something different, either because you want to save putting people on the spot, or you simply want to do something different and fun, read on.
First, you can certainly take the whole toast thing off the agenda if you wish. There are no rules requiring a toast at any wedding. Weddings should be unique events and reflect the personalities of the bride and groom.
But if you want to do something a little different, there are options. You can go the video route, which asks people to essentially make a toast on camera and then the video is given to the bride and groom later. This isn’t a particularly unique idea, but it does solve the issue of not wanting to put people on the spot and still gives everyone a chance to say something special to the bride and groom.
If your guest list includes many outgoing people then consider “pass the microphone”. This can work in several ways. You can either be silly with it, or deadly serious. Most people like silly. Say dad takes the microphone first. His last name ends with T (so, let’s say dad’s last name is Smith). He must find someone whose first name begins with a T (Tom? Tony? Tina? Theresa?) and pass the microphone to that person, who then gives a toast.
This method of giving toasts does put people on the spot (certainly before the fun begins you can warn them so if they are really uncomfortable, they can escape to the restroom or bar) but it can also be a lot of fun. Getting people when they least expect it and then asking them to remember something funny or meaningful about the bride and groom can result in interesting, funny and truthful results.
You might also decide that one person at each table be required to give a toast. Number the tables and at various intervals, have the MC or DJ call a number, which will require guests at that table to decide amongst themselves who will give the toast at that table. Certainly, more than one person can if they like, but there will likely be at least one ham at each table who will enjoy standing up and toasting the newlyweds.
Say you have plenty of public speakers in the group, and finding willing toast participants won’t be a problem. But you think the subject matter might be. There’s an easy solution to this problem. You can provide open-ended topics for the toast speakers. Say you are providing an “open mike” toast arrangement, where anyone can request the microphone and offer a toast. The DJ, MC or someone else in the wedding party (perhaps the maid of honor or best man) can offer the speaker a surprise topic, which might be pulled from a champagne flute or drawn out of the floral arrangement on the head table. There might be slips of paper to choose, or just one sheet of paper with several ideas.
The speaker might choose to finish this sentence, “I remember when (groom’s name here) was a little boy, he always …” or answer this question, “When was (insert bride’s name here) at her silliest? Tell us the story”. You might have to give each speaker a minute or two to collect their thoughts, but you’re sure to have some interesting stories, some unique anecdotes and some different perspectives on the bride and groom.

Wedding Speeches/Toasts?
Does anyone have any idea who normally gives a speech/toast at weddings, I need help my wedding is in August and we don’t know who to ask to do speeches, neither of our parents will give speeches.
I was told that an old time friend is suppose to toast to the bride and someone from each of our families is suppose to welcome the other into our families, also that the maid of honour isnt suppose to give a speech.
Any Ideas where I can find help for the bride and grooms speech.
Also we’re going to be introduced at our reception and go around to each table during the reception to thank everyone individually our guest list is 70 close friends and family. Also thank people in person after the church Ceremony…..So is a receiving line neccessary???
This really depends on your family structure and who is willing to stand up and talk in front of a crowd. =)
Most of the time the best man and the maid of honor will speak along with the parents of the bride and groom. Like I said above this, it all depends on who is willing to talk. You never want to force someone to talk, or to say something that will make them feel uncomfortable.
Sometimes, other people will want to talk at your wedding like an old friend, or someone that is like a parent, and or even you officiant if they have know you for a long time.

During the wedding reception, the mother of the bride gets the chance to offer a toast for her newlywed daughter. Seeing a daughter getting married is an exciting and sad event for a parent and delivering an appropriate speech during this affair could be difficult. These are some of a few tips that a mother could use to be able to deliver a very much-appreciated speech during her daughter’s wedding.
First, you may thank the guests that attended the wedding. Remember that this event will not be successful without the guests you invited. Thank them for their efforts to make the wedding successful and memorable for your child. Third, it is your chance to formally welcome the groom as part of your family. There are some parents who do not see the worth of a guy in their daughters not until they became married. A simple “Welcome to the Family” would be enough to show that you have fully accepted him.
Fourth, avoid thinking sad thoughts during speech delivery. It is really difficult not to do so but if it would allow you more time to talk rather than cry, then it will be much better. A lot of moms commit this error of thinking that they will be losing their child during speeches that’s why it disables them to deliver a good speech. It even causes them to have breakdowns!
Lastly, since tears are not avoidable during this event, be sure you have a tissue or a handkerchief before starting with your speech. It is not a good sight to have somebody with smeared mascara.

I have never heard of the mother of the groom making a toast unless the father has past away or is not present at the wedding for some reason. It is the bridegrooms father who makes the toast. If, in fact, the father will not/cannot be there then you can use this…

More than likely you’ve been to your share of weddings over time, and you have probably heard some great wedding toasts, and then again, you’ve probably heard some horrible ones as well. If you plan on making a wedding toast, no doubt you’ll want to be a part of the former group; however, if you’ve never made a toast before, you may not be sure of where to begin. Well, relax. It’s really no big deal, and with a few simple tips, you’ll be ready to give a toast that will be heart warming and memorable at your friends’ wedding.
Do Some Preparation in Advance- If you know that you are going to have to give a toast at a wedding, you will want to do some preparation in advance. The last thing you want to do is decide to wing the whole thing, then stand up and not be able to think of a thing to say. So, before the wedding, take some time to do a bit of preparation. You’ll want to take some time to write down some of your thoughts before hand so you can get them organized and decide what you really want to say. Some people write down the entire toast to make sure they have it there in case they forget, while others just write down a few thoughts to guide them. The way that works for you is the one you should choose, as long as you do spend some time preparing for the toast.
Make Sure to Get Some Practice – Of course just as important as preparation is getting some practice before hand. You don’t want to make the wedding the first time that you have tried to give this little speech. So, take some time to do some practicing. Practice in your mirror or consider having someone listen to you give it as well. You’ll have an idea of where you need to make some changes and you’ll get an idea of how long it is as well.
Keep the Toast Short and Sweet – The wedding toast that you make should be short and sweet. No one wants to hear you drone on for 20 minutes just making a toast. It’s sure to get boring after the first five minutes. So, make sure that you keep it short. Time yourself when you are practicing so that you are sure your toast is not taking too long. It’s better for everyone to wish you’d gone on a bit longer rather than to have them all wishing you’d shut up.
Avoid Corny or Off Color Humor – While a bit of humor is okay in a wedding toast, it is important that you avoid any humor that is corny or off color. A wedding is not the place for anything that is off color, and you don’t want to embarrass yourself by being corny. So, keep it light, and a bit of humor is okay, as long as you avoid these pitfalls.
Keep it From the Heart – Your wedding toast should also be right from your heart as well. You don’t want to just try to say all the right things in your toast, but you need to come up with a toast that you really mean and that is right from your heart. When you speak from your heart people will feel it in your words and it will make a wonderful toast that is memorable to all that are at the wedding.
If you keep each of these simple tips in mind, you are sure to come up with and deliver a toast that is wonderfully memorable. As long as you prepare, practice, keep it short, avoid the wrong kind of humor, and make it from your heart, you’ll do great. So, stop worrying about the toast and use these tips to make it through.

Does anyone have any suggestions for group bridesmaid speeches?
My friends and I are bridesmaids in a wedding this weekend and no one likes to give solo speeches. It is not mandatory that bridesmaids give a speech but all of us want to do something small for our friend together. Any ideas of what to do?
Hmmm… the only thing I can say to do is to just speak!
Write something up about your friendship and your love. Write about the groom (positive things of course) and then split it up. But honestly, just say what comes from your heart.
When my sister was my bridesmaid and she spoke about us I was moved to tears because she talked about how I used to play video games and draw anime– but then I became a beautiful women and met a wonderful man. She wrote nice, wonderful things about us and while it was short and sweet, it was very touching.
If your very uncomfortable about it tell the bride and select someone to speak for the group. That would probably be best since nobody wants several people crowding around a mike to speak (especially if she wants you to speak at the wedding). Good luck and you can do it!

While your bride-to-be decides on the bridesmaids, you’re left with the task of choosing the groomsmen. Now you have to keep in mind that you can’t just randomly pick any of your male buddies or acquaintances to be your groomsmen.
Groomsmen play a big part in your wedding. They are not there just to assist the guest and to walk the bridesmaids down the aisle. So just as your wife would carefully choose who she wants to stand by her during the big day, you should also put a little thought into choosing the guys you want to stand with you on your wedding day, and all throughout your married life.
Things to Consider
But before you begin selecting your groomsmen, you’ll first have to decide on a few things. First thing you should think about is whether you are going to have a big, festive wedding, or a smaller, solemn ceremony. If you are going to have a big wedding and your bride has decided to have five bridesmaids, then you should try to match that number so that they can walk evenly down the aisle during the processional. It would a bit embarrassing for a bridesmaid, or a groomsman, to be left without a partner.
But if you and your bride want a small ceremony, you may invite just two persons to stand as witnesses – your bride’s maid of honor and your best man. In this case, groomsmen aren’t really necessary.
The next thing you have to consider is your budget. How much are you willing to allot for your bridesmaids and groomsmen? Will you pay for the tuxedo rent, or have them fitted for their own suits? Will you pay for their transportation expenses? Some of your groomsmen might have to fly over to attend the wedding.
Family
Family members are traditionally included in the entourage, but you are not obligated to have all your brothers, uncles, and cousins serve as groomsmen to your wedding. Choose a family member you are genuinely close to.
If you want to foster a closer connection to your bride’s family, you may also include some of her relatives. But be sure to consult this matter with your bride. Ask her who she thinks should be your groomsman; after all, she knows her family a lot better than anyone else.
Friends
Apart from family members, the groom’s closest friends are usually chosen as groomsmen for the wedding. You might have a band of friends who you are close with, but you can only choose a few. So think about who among them you can trust and depend on, not just on the wedding day, but also for the years to come.
Ask yourself, who among your friends know you really well so that they would know what to say during a toast? Which of your friends care enough about your wedding that they would help you out during the wedding preparation? Who among your friends are genuinely concerned about your relationship with your bride so that they would be there for you in times of trouble?
This task may seem too serious. But answering these questions will help you narrow down your choices, and it will definitely make choosing you groomsmen easier.
