How to make a toast? Details needed!?

What is the order of things? I'll be doing a toast at the wedding of my best friend as her maid of honor. I know I need to introduce myself, my words of wisdom …. then I can not say something like "boyfriends" or "Cheers" or "May your life be happy and wonderful" … or some combination of things how are you. Do you usually touch glasses after a toast? I think I have to get up my cup, but if my speech is like a long minute, when? How about asking others to raise their glasses too? I need a schematic of how to do this because I'm confused.
